Hi – I’m Bentley. I’m a Cocker Spaniel and I live at Heceta Beach. Actually, I pretty much RUN the place, since my owner and I are on the beach every day. I love to explore all the stuff that comes in every day with each new tide. I help my owner find shells and sand dollars, and there are such great smells on the beach, especially around the driftwood. I also love to chase the seagulls, although I’ve never caught one. Mostly, though, I just love to run and run on the beach – it’s so pretty and clean, and sometimes we see whales and sea lions, along with the fishing boats. Some people fly kites, and they’re fun to watch, too. My owner can’t keep up with me, so I am usually running by myself ahead of him. That’s why I love to see other dogs and people. I am very friendly and love to meet all breeds of dogs. I also love all the different and fun people I meet – especially the ones who carry dog treats – YUM! So, please come to Heceta Beach and stay at one of the Whales Watch rentals. Leslie is great – and so is her dog, Renfro. But, if you come, be sure and bring some treats for me. | Hi, I'm Betsy and this is my brother George. We are the luckiest Bassets ever because we live on Heceta Beach near Florence, Oregon. We're lucky because "Mom and Dad" adopted us in December 2009 from the animal shelter. Now we are heaven!! We get to go for walks on the beach almost every day. Most times we go with our very best friend Renfro, Leslie's Cairn Terror, not Terrier. We all make a great pack, but Renfro loves chasing his tennis ball better than playing with us. We don't mind, 'cause we meet so many friendly dogs and people on the beach, also great logs to sniff, sand to roll in, and jellyfish that scare me. George is braver than me. | Wow! Heceta Beach has all new smells, sights and sounds. I live in the high desert of New Mexico and never have seen so much water, heard the thundering surf, or sniffed a beach after the tide has gone out. My owners took me walking on the beach, over miles of dunes, through forests, to lakes, and out to tide pools. I did meet another Corgi on the beach, though. There was one tense moment, even for a dog; when I fast-tracked it up a 10-foot-high rock out-cropping on the Baker Beach, and I couldn’t get back down. Luckily Tim, and Ann were able to lift me off, as my short legs are much better suited for the halls of Buckingham Palace than for vertical cliff faces. My one disappointment was the seagulls. They looked like such easy prey, until I stealthily ran after one and another and all got away. --Foxy "Gull Landing" 2012 | |
| Kelly and Kona can never get enough beach time in...All the smells, sound, sites and friends...two and four legged ones...just make the day for them. A good long walk ending with stick time and a romp in the creek up north from Whales Watch which cools them off and then they were ready to head back for a nice long nap, me too! | Hi, I'm Lucky and my parents own Starfish Sands, about twice a year, I get to come hang at Heceta Beach for a couple of weeks. I have so much fun sniffing logs, meeting other dogs and hanging in the front yard enjoying the view. I've also gotten to be friends with Renfro and George & Betsy. But you've got to sniff it for yourself, bring your parents and come hang at the beach ~ and you'll be Lucky too! -2010 | |
| Hi, I'm Lauder the Dachshund and this is my pal MJ who is Dachshund/Mini-Pinscher. We got to vacation at Whales Watch in August 2011 and were asked what we enjoyed most " Running on the beach", "Chasing the birds on the beach"!! "Chasing down the ball on the beach"! The morsels of halibut brought back from the Waterfront Depot restaurant were a close second to time on the beach! Now we want to know when we are going back?? our owner Doris wished she hadn't mentioned the beach to us for this article! 2011 | |
| I'm Otto and I got to live at Whales Watch, while my dad built Ocean View Villa. I have fun everywhere my dad works as I always get to join him on the jobsite and play with lumber all day. But living on the beach, running with driftwood and splashing through the creek every day when I got off work was just amazing. | |
| Hi, my name is Renfro and I'm a Cairn Terrier ("Toto"). I live at Whales Watch and I like to take long walks with my Basset Buddies George & Betsy. I also love to chase a tennis ball, dig holes and run thru the surf. I'd be happy to show you how to enjoy these skills as well.
